Thriving in balance
The true intersection of health and well being lie in the home of self knowledge.
Developing healthy practices and building foundational wellness techniques to train the mind-body to stay in the present is a testament to the gift of wellness we all deserve to be thriving in.
Building sustainable foundational wellness techniques is paramount to living and thriving in today's day and age. Because,
Life is wayyy too short to not be feeling your best.
I also recognize all the subconscious hurdles that can defeat us before we even begin. The power of the human mind. As a daily meditator, I recognize how powerful thought energy is. Inflammation from chronic pain due to structural misalignment, electronic air pollution and modified 'food' choices only magnify our uphill battle, and as we age in grace, awareness and understanding, we begin to recognize that the accumulation of all of our past choices are impacting our present day self.
How to connect with balance?
Our bodies are subtle instruments that are uniquely designed and have their own stories to share, which offers us the road map to our greatest inner healing. It is our birthright that we listen to our souls! And if we have forgotten how, that's where I come in.
As a continual student, I am consistently training in many healing modalities over the past almost 10 years at Kanyakumari School of Ayurveda, locally, and the Himalayan Institute with some of the world's most renowned teachers in energy medicine, since having my first daughter which threw me so drastically out of balance, because I had absolutely no tools. Not to mention clouded thinking from lifetimes of ancestral negativity bias that I need to continually clear out, combined with an inability to reside in the parasympathetic nervous system because I simply did not know how. My mirror neurons were mimicking a distressed, fast-paced society that had me continually reaching for crutches, that only furthered how unwell and out of balance I truly was.
It is my calling to share my toolkit and my heartcentric intuition to help bring you healing on your journey. I work as a Certified Health Coach and am in process of obtaining my WELCOA Faculty Certification and Trauma Informed Care Certification. As a family Herbalist, I also have a deep appreciation for deep restoration, and the father of modern medicine, Hippocrates recommending “The way to health is to have an aromatic bath and a scented massage every day.” If only it were that simple. I do believe the most radical thing we can allow space for in our human experience, is space to rest and heal. I believe to be truly well, we need to focus on preventative care, and not look at the symptoms of disease as traditional allopathy does, but rather the root of the dis-ease. Holistic care that values the all of the human experience, mind, body, spirit.
I blend together a science and an art in my private practice with customized herbal blends and Ayurvedic doshic balancing recipes specific for your constitution. So together we can balance input and output to achieve a balanced and well lifestyle through lifestyle, diet, self-care techniques, breathwork, energy therapy, movement and mantra.
Every action done with awareness can, in fact, be called yoga. We should try to inculcate the same degree of awareness we have when performing yoga asanas in everything we do. ~Amma
Jennifer Abha Oakes, Holistic Health Practitioner, has always had a love affair with the human body. From a young age, she inspected skeletons, and played with her kneecaps under mountains of sheets, while understanding later in life, that the body's inherent job to rest and digest in the Parasympathetic Nervous System is something many of us are never trained to do when we search for the manual of human beingness. Until the body sends us signals that we are dramatically out-of-balance, and we've become human doings, attached to our addictions which can actually be disrupted in thought energy (technology, alcohol, caffeine, unhealthy relationships) unable to think clearly. This is when we need a beacon of light, to serve as a guide, to step in and gently hold our hand back to the way of the truth and light. Jen's primary method of one-to-one work with her clients includes kinesthetic energy medicine bodywork, combined with dietary adjustments and herbal modifications, to enhance full spectrum living.
Jen's life path has woven from the study of Kinesiology at the University of Wisconsin over 20 years ago to dissecting cadavers at the University of Pennsylvania, to training under Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn in MBSR (Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction), certifications in Yoga Science and Ayurvedic Energy Medicine, Community Herbalism and Medicinal Aromatherapy. And the learning continues, on a very deep, exploratory level so she can continue to heal and bring about more awareness to her loved ones and clients. The more subtle area of her practice allows her to access the hidden realms of each unique being and deep listening to the interweavings of the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual layers of the body. When we can access the release of stored, epigenetic inherited and collective trauma, the more interconnected and conscious we as a human being and species, can become. She is a daily Kundalini Yoga Practitioner, and shares the practice with her husband and her four small children. The practice of honesty and humility.
Her greatest teachers are those who have the keen ability to integrate the left-brained knowledge in their bodies and feel it in their hearts before becoming a teacher, and those souls who have a distinct ability to deeply listen and reconnect us to our missing unclaimed parts that map us back to the divine and our own intuition. To truly be here of service, giving from an overfull cup.
And her family. It is why she has chosen to follow her calling of living a life of balance and giving back to others who are committed to living a life of balance and ease.
Because we all deserve to thrive. To Be whole. To be well.
